Description

A small piece of brightwork rather than a lamp: this chrome trim clips to the side of a fabric shade and draws one clean vertical line down it. At 60mm wide it is narrow, and it stands only a few millimetres clear of the cloth, so it reads as detail rather than as something added on. There is no flex, no lamp holder and nothing to connect, which means the shade and the fitting beneath it carry on doing their usual jobs.

It is cut to the height of a 22cm shade, running from top edge to bottom so the line looks deliberate rather than stranded halfway. We use it to lift a plain drum on a bedside pair, on a hall console lamp, or on a floor lamp shade that has gone a little flat next to chrome or polished nickel elsewhere in the room. It suits anyone who wants a shade to pick up the metal of the base without changing the fabric, and it is an easy way to bring a pair of mismatched lamps closer together.

The finish is a bright chrome over a light body that adds almost nothing to the weight of the shade. Keep it looking right with an occasional wipe using a dry, soft cloth; anything abrasive or any spray cleaner will dull the plating, and household polish is not needed. Since it does no electrical work at all, it asks nothing of the lamp it decorates, though steam and damp would mark the plating in time, so keep it to the drier rooms. It carries a one year warranty.
