Description

Brown oxide is a warm, rusted sort of brown, closer to weathered iron than to chocolate, and it does the quiet work of adding a little depth to a plain shade. This is a small decorative piece, narrow and upright, that clips over the edge of a shade and sits close against it. The width is modest, so several can be spaced around a shade for a repeating detail, or a single one placed at the front where it will be noticed. Nothing about it is loud.

It is sized for shades 22cm tall, which puts it on table lamps and bedside lamps rather than on tall floor standing shades. We reach for small details like this when a room has gone slightly flat: plain lamps either side of a bed, or a hall table lamp that wants a touch of colour without a new shade being bought. Being non-electric, it changes nothing about the lamp or its wiring, and it lifts off again cleanly, so it can move to another shade whenever you rearrange.

It is light in the hand, finished in brown oxide across both faces, and shaped to hold its own position without tools or adhesive.
