Description

A wide, shallow cylinder in gold foil, lined in white so the light comes back warm rather than metallic. At 60cm across it reads as a broad band rather than a deep drum, and the foil catches whatever light falls on it during the day. The outer face has a soft, slightly broken lustre; the white laminate inside keeps the glow clean. We keep this one for rooms where a shade needs to hold its own without much depth to it, and it is not an electrical fitting in itself.

It suits a long dining table, a wide hall or a generous landing, hung on a pendant flex so the band sits at eye level and above. On a tall floor lamp base it gives the same broad line beside a sofa. It is one we reach for where a smaller drum would look lost in a big room. A frosted GLS LED lamp is what we would put in it, up to 20W, which is plenty for a shade of this width and keeps the lining from showing hot spots. Do let the lamp cool before you handle the shade.

The gold is a foil finish on the outer face, with white laminate bonded inside, so it wants a light hand: dust it with a clean soft brush, working around the drum rather than across it, and keep polishes and damp cloths away from the foil. Fingermarks show on gold more than on fabric, so lift it by the top edge. It carries a one year warranty. Smaller cylinders in the range come in this gold leaf finish, in a silver leaf version, and in faux silk. Lamps are not included.
