Description

Wide and shallow, this cylinder measures 50cm across, which gives it real presence without much drop. The outer face is finished in silver foil, so it picks up whatever light falls on it and shifts a little as you move around the room. Inside, a white laminate lining bounces the light back down cleanly, keeping the tone bright rather than tinted. There is no wiring here: it is a non-electric shade, made to work with a fitting you already own or one chosen alongside it.

We like it over a dining table, where a broad shade throws a wide pool of light across the surface and the foil reads well against a set table. It works just as happily on a tall floor lamp or a substantial table base in a sitting room, and it suits rooms with a bit of height, since the diameter does the work rather than the length. For the host fitting we would use an LED GLS A60 lamp of up to 20W, which is plenty behind a lining this reflective.

Construction is straightforward: a rolled cylinder with foil applied to the outer face and white laminate to the inner, held in a firm circular form. Keep a foil surface dry when you clean it. A soft brush or a dry duster over the outside is all it asks for, and we would keep sprays and damp cloths away, as they can mark the leaf. It carries a one year warranty. The same cylinder is made in a gold leaf version, and in a smaller size in this silver, so two rooms can be kept in step without matching exactly. No lamp is supplied with the shade.
