Sigma Cylinder Lamp Shade 50cm PVC - Gold Foil

Gold foil covers the outer face of this wide cylinder, with a white laminate lining inside that keeps the downward light clean and bright rather than tinted by the colour above it. At 50cm across, with a shallow drop rather than a deep drum, it reads as a broad band of light and colour instead of a tall column. It is a non-electric shade, so the lampholder comes from the fitting it sits on or hangs from, and we would put a GLS A60 LED of no more than 20W inside it.

We think of this size as a room anchor. Over a dining table it gives the ceiling something to hold without hanging low enough to block a sightline across the table, and on a tall floor lamp beside a sofa it balances the base rather than perching on it. The foil catches whatever light is in the room during the day, so it still has presence when nothing is switched on. It suits sitting rooms, hallways with height to spare and bedrooms where a single central light does most of the work, and it is one we reach for when a plain paper shade would disappear.

The gold is a foil surface over the shade body, backed by white laminate, so treat it as a finish rather than solid metal: dust it with a soft dry cloth, work around the drum in one direction, and keep sprays, polishes and damp cloths well away from the foiled face. The shade is dry-room stock, meant for rooms away from steam and splashing. It carries a one year warranty. The same cylinder is made in a smaller size, and in a silver leaf version with the same white lining if the gold is too warm for your scheme. Lamps are bought separately.

Which lamp should I use with it?

An LED GLS A60 is the recommended choice, up to a maximum of 20W. The lamp is not included, and the holder is provided by the fitting the shade is used with.

Is this shade electrical?

No, it is a non-electric shade. It has no lampholder, flex or wiring of its own and relies entirely on the host pendant or lamp base.

What is the lining like?

The inside is a white laminate. It reflects light downward with very little colour cast, which keeps the light under the shade neutral even though the outside is gold.

How should I clean the gold foil?

Use a soft dry cloth or a light dusting brush only. Water, sprays and cleaning products can mark or lift the foil, so keep them away from the surface.

Can it be used over a dining table?

Yes. At 500mm wide with a shallow 200mm height, it suits a pendant above a table where you want width at the top without the shade dropping into your line of sight.
