Description

Grey faux silk gives this small rectangular shade a soft sheen that shifts with the light, while the white laminate lining keeps the light it throws clean and bright. The corners are crisp and the sides straight, so it reads as a quiet piece of geometry rather than something decorative. It is shallow front to back, which helps it sit neatly on a narrow shelf or a bedside table, and it is equally at home on a table lamp or hung from a pendant flex.

We tend to suggest it in pairs on bedside tables, where a matching set settles a bedroom quickly, and it does the same job on a small console lamp in a hall or a lamp on a study desk. Rectangles suit square and boxy furniture in particular, where a round shade can look a little loose against the lines. Because the shade itself is non-electrical, the lamp belongs to the fitting you dress: a golf ball LED is the one we would reach for, and the host lamp should stay within 40W.

The fabric is a woven faux silk, chosen for the way it holds a shape at this smaller scale, backed in white laminate. To keep it looking fresh, run a soft brush or a lint roller lightly along the weave and leave water and sprays well away from the surface; marks on faux silk are far easier to prevent than to remove. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included. If you would rather soften the geometry, the range also runs to round cylinder shades in black, white, grey and ivory pearl, plus organza versions in cream and black, and mixing a curve with a rectangle across a room tends to work better than matching everything exactly.
