Wide and shallow, this cylinder gives a broad band of soft bronze faux silk around the lamp, measuring 45cm across and standing low in proportion. The fabric carries a quiet sheen that shifts as you move past it, warmer than a grey and far more muted than anything metallic. Lit, the bronze deepens and glows through the weave; switched off, it settles back into the room as a calm mid neutral that sits happily with wood, brass and warm white walls.

The width is the point of it. A shade this broad throws light out sideways rather than dropping it straight down, which is useful over a dining table, on a generous floor lamp, or on a wide ceramic or glass table lamp base that would look pinched under something narrow. We reach for shallow drums like this in rooms with lower ceilings, where a deep shade closes the space in. It is non electric, so it takes its lamp from whatever fitting it goes onto: an LED GLS is what we would put in it, and 20W is the most it should be asked to carry.

The faux silk is drawn smooth and even around the drum, with the soft bronze running consistently across the face so there is no patchy shading when the light is on. Keep it dry when you clean it: a soft brush worked gently along the weave lifts dust, and sprays or damp cloths are best kept away from the fabric altogether. It carries a one year warranty. How do I clean faux silk?

Dust it dry with a soft brush or a lint free cloth, following the direction of the weave. Avoid water, sprays and cleaning fluids, which can mark the fabric.
