The Sangamo Choice Plus is an electronic room thermostat with frost protection capability, designed to maintain spaces above freezing when heating systems are turned down or left unoccupied. The thermostat operates across a -5°C to 30°C set temperature range and uses an electronic sensor to monitor and respond to room conditions, switching heating loads up to 10A at 240V AC.

Intended for residential and light commercial applications where frost protection is needed — garages, conservatories, outbuildings, holiday homes, or plant rooms — the thermostat mounts directly to a wall using standard back box fixings. The tamper-resistant cover is secured with a security Torx screw, preventing unauthorised adjustment in public or multi-tenant spaces. The 0.5°C and 1°C temperature swing adjustment allows the installer to fine-tune how much the room temperature can drift before the thermostat triggers the heating system, balancing comfort against boiler cycling frequency.

The silver finish gives a neutral appearance that suits most wall colours and interior styles without drawing attention. At 90mm tall and 92mm wide, the unit is compact enough to fit alongside other electrical fittings or in tight wall spaces. The 0.19kg weight means it can be mounted onto standard plasterboard walls with appropriate fixings. What's the difference between 0.5°C and 1°C temperature swing?

Temperature swing is how much the room temperature can drop below the set point before the thermostat switches the heating back on. A 0.5°C swing keeps the room closer to the target temperature but causes the boiler to cycle more frequently. A 1°C swing allows more temperature drift but reduces boiler cycling and can improve efficiency in well-insulated spaces.

Can this be used with any type of boiler?

Yes. The 10A switch rating at 240V AC makes the thermostat compatible with gas, oil, electric and heat pump systems. It switches the heating circuit directly, acting as a simple on/off control rather than a modulating or smart controller.

What does frost protection mode do?

Frost protection mode allows you to set the thermostat to a low temperature (typically 5-7°C) to keep an unoccupied space above freezing. The heating will only come on when the room drops below this set point, preventing pipes from freezing without maintaining full comfort heating.

Is the tamper-resistant cover removable for programming?

Yes. The cover is secured with a security Torx screw, which requires a specific screwdriver bit to remove. Once removed, the temperature set point and swing adjustment can be changed, then the cover can be refitted to prevent further adjustment.
