The Sangamo Choice Plus is a battery-powered digital room thermostat with a large rotary dial and LCD temperature display, designed to control heating systems using TPI (Time Proportional & Integral) logic. The electronic sensor monitors ambient temperature and cycles the boiler on and off in timed intervals to maintain the set point between 5°C and 30°C, reducing temperature overshoot and improving heating efficiency compared to mechanical bimetallic thermostats.

Designed for wall mounting in hallways, living rooms and other representative spaces, the Choice Plus suits gas, oil and electric heating systems via a volt-free 3A relay output. The TPI control algorithm adjusts boiler run times based on how far the room temperature is from the set point — when close to target, the boiler runs shorter cycles; when far below, it runs longer. This reduces fuel consumption and wear on the boiler compared to simple on/off switching at a fixed threshold.

The thermostat operates in Comfort mode (using the set temperature) or Economy mode (reducing the set point by 3°C), or can be switched fully off. A frost protection function holds the temperature at 5°C when the unit is in standby, preventing pipes from freezing in unoccupied properties. The white finish and 105mm x 92mm faceplate suit standard UK interiors without dominating the wall. Battery life indication warns when the two AA batteries (supplied) need replacing.

What is TPI control and why does it matter?

TPI (Time Proportional & Integral) control cycles the boiler on and off in timed intervals that adjust based on how far the room is from the target temperature. This reduces temperature overshoot, improves comfort, and saves fuel compared to simple on/off thermostats that switch at a fixed threshold.

What's the difference between Comfort and Economy modes?

Comfort mode maintains the temperature you set on the dial. Economy mode reduces that set point by 3°C, allowing lower overnight or daytime temperatures without manually adjusting the dial. The thermostat can also be switched fully off via the ON/OFF button.

What heating systems is this compatible with?

The Choice Plus provides a volt-free 3A relay output, making it compatible with gas, oil and electric heating systems. It replaces the room thermostat in a standard UK heating circuit and does not require mains power — it runs on two AA batteries.

How long do the batteries last?

Battery life depends on how often the heating cycles. Typical life is 12-18 months under normal residential use. The LCD shows a low battery indicator when replacement is needed. Two AA batteries are supplied with the thermostat.
