Description

The Rookhurst is a round pendant built from clear glass rods set in a chrome frame, so the light passes through the glass and breaks into fine vertical lines. The array measures 700mm across and the overall height adjusts from 450mm right down to 1630mm, which covers a standard ceiling and a stairwell in the same fitting. A single central lampholder lights the whole array, and the pendant is dimmable when used with dimmable bulbs and a matched dimmer switch. It weighs 3.8kg, is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms and is a Class 2 fitting, so no earth is needed.

One lamp behind a field of glass rods gives a sparkle closer to cut crystal than to a shade, which is why we would hang this ceiling light where it will be looked at: over a dining table, in a hallway with height, or above a stair turn. The 700mm width asks for a room with some space around it. Chrome keeps the whole thing cool and bright, sitting well with grey, white and black rooms and with chrome fittings elsewhere. Dimming is worth wiring in, since glass rods are at their best turned down.

The frame and ceiling plate are metal in polished chrome, and the rods are clear glass, held in the frame around the central lamp. Dust the rods with a soft dry brush or a clean duster rather than a folded cloth, which will not reach between them, then wipe any marks with a barely damp cloth and dry at once. Chrome marks easily, so keep sprays and cream cleaners away from it. The guide supplied with the light confirms the lamp type and maximum wattage before you buy bulbs. The same rod array is also made in gold, and in a linear version for longer tables.
