Description

The Riley is a 24cm diameter ball pendant light built around a spherical cognac-tinted glass shade held within an antique brass frame. A single E27 bulb fitting sits inside the glass sphere, with the cognac tone diffusing the light while softening glare. The brass frame comprises a top suspension ring, a hinged lower band that opens for bulb access, and a chain suspension running to a matching antique brass ceiling cup.

Designed for use over kitchen islands, dining tables, hallway lighting runs and bedroom side-table positions, the Riley works as a single pendant in compact spaces or in multiples along a longer worktop. The 600-1600mm adjustable drop allows the pendant to be set at the appropriate height during installation — typically 700-900mm above a dining table or 600-800mm above a kitchen worktop depending on ceiling height. The hinged lower frame opens on small brass fixings, giving bulb access without dismantling the entire fitting.

The antique brass finish on the metalwork shows a muted patina rather than high polish, pairing with traditional, country and industrial interiors. The cognac glass carries a warm amber tone that appears pale when unlit and deepens to a rich honey colour when the bulb is switched on. At 2.3kg the fitting has sufficient weight to hang stably on the chain without swaying under airflow, while remaining light enough to fit standard UK ceiling roses without additional ceiling support.

What bulb does the Riley take?

The fitting takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to match the cognac glass tone.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer switch. The fitting itself has no electronic components that would prevent dimming. LED filament bulbs labelled as dimmable work well with most trailing-edge dimmers.

How is the drop adjusted?

The chain suspension can be shortened during installation by removing links and coiling excess cable inside the ceiling cup. The minimum drop of 600mm and maximum of 1600mm refer to the total distance from ceiling rose to the bottom of the glass sphere.

Can the glass be cleaned?

Yes. The hinged lower frame opens to allow bulb access and gives sufficient clearance to wipe the inside of the glass sphere with a soft cloth. The outside can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and dried to avoid water marks.
