Description
The Opera is a 1.89m torchiere floor lamp built around a central column of openwork metalwork in a Firenze Gold finish, topped with a flared amber glass shade. The column features Gothic-inspired tracery and vertical ribbing cast into the metal, with decorative bands at the capital and base. A single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W) sits inside the glass shade, which diffuses light upwards and outwards through the amber-toned glass.
Designed for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above, the Opera suits reading corners, hallway alcoves, and formal living rooms where upward ambient light is needed without ceiling installation. The 450mm diameter base provides stability on carpet and hard floors, and the torchiere form directs most light upwards to bounce off the ceiling, giving indirect ambient fill rather than concentrated task light. The height allows the lamp to be positioned behind or beside seating without the shade sitting at head level.
The Firenze Gold finish is a warm bronze-gold with darker antiquing in the recessed detail of the metalwork, giving depth to the column when viewed from different angles. The amber glass shade adds warmth to the light output, particularly noticeable when paired with warm-white LED bulbs in the 2700K-3000K range. The openwork column allows some light to escape through the tracery when the lamp is on, creating subtle pattern on adjacent walls. Feiss manufactures this piece in the USA.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Opera take?
The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to complement the amber glass shade and gold finish.
Does it provide task light or ambient light?
The Opera is an upward-facing torchiere, so it provides indirect ambient light by bouncing light off the ceiling. It is not suitable as direct task lighting for reading or detailed work, but works well as background fill in formal living rooms and hallways.
What ceiling height is needed?
At 1.89m tall, the Opera suits rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above. In lower-ceilinged rooms the shade may sit uncomfortably close to the ceiling, reducing the bounce effect and making bulb changes awkward.
Is the metalwork solid or openwork?
The column features openwork Gothic-style tracery, meaning it has cut-out sections that allow some light to escape through the sides when the lamp is on. This creates subtle patterning on nearby walls and adds decorative interest beyond the main upward light output.
