Description

The globe here is a full 40cm ball of glass, gold mirrored and clear, hung from a slim antique gold suspension. Switched off it sits quietly as a reflective sphere, picking up whatever colour the room gives it. Switched on, the mirroring keeps the light close to the glass, so the spread is warmer and gentler than plain clear glass would give. The E27 lampholder sits at the top of the ball, tucked above the main line of sight.

We would hang it over a round dining table or a kitchen island, where a wide sphere earns the space it takes, and it does equally well as a pair either side of a bed or dropped into a hallway with height to spare. The suspension adjusts to a drop of 2m, so tall rooms and stairwell voids are as easy as standard ceilings. It can be dimmed with a compatible lamp and dimmer, which is worth arranging if the room doubles as somewhere to eat and somewhere to sit late.

Glass and metal throughout, with the antique gold finish carried from the ceiling cup down to the fitting at the top of the globe. Mirrored glass shows every fingermark, so keep a dry microfibre cloth for it and lift the dust away rather than working it round the surface; sprays and damp cloths should stay well clear of the lampholder. This is a fitting for dry rooms, not for bathrooms or anywhere steam gathers. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same ball in smaller sizes in this antique gold, and this size in black or satin nickel with frosted white glass if you would rather the light were diffused than reflected.
