Description

Metropole is a ceiling light in black. A small black cone hanging point-down at the centre of a black yoke, with two wide shallow black domes carried on short arms either side of it, each tipped so its mouth faces down and out. The domes are lined pale, so they read as bright discs from below against the matt black outside. Fine black flexes loop from each head back to the central stem. A slim black rod rises from the yoke to the ceiling. Everything but the linings is a flat matt black.

Mounted flush it clears a doorway and a low ceiling, so a corridor, a landing or a small bedroom is its territory, and it lights the whole room evenly rather than pooling on one surface. It is the light you put in first and stop noticing, which is the point of a flush fitting: it does the general lighting so the lamps in the room can do the rest.

The holder is E27 and takes up to 40W each. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block, which is work for a competent electrician. It is class II, double insulated, so it needs no earth, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

Does it need an earth?

Can it go in a bathroom?
