Description

The Merrill is a 330mm flush-mount outdoor ceiling light with a heritage bronze metal frame surrounding a cream etched glass diffuser. The fitting houses two E27 bulbs (sold separately) behind the frosted glass, which softens direct glare and spreads light evenly across porches, covered patios and entrance canopies. The bronze frame forms a stepped geometric perimeter around the glass, with vertical support posts linking the top and bottom rings.

Designed for covered outdoor positions such as porch ceilings, carport entry points, and exterior hallways, the IP44 rating protects against water splashes and dust ingress. The 162mm height makes it suitable for standard outdoor ceiling heights of 2.2m and above, where a pendant would hang too low or into the path of taller individuals. The fitting bolts directly to a standard ceiling rose and the bronze canopy conceals the wiring connection.

The heritage bronze finish is a mid-tone brown with subtle darker lowlights in the recesses of the stepped frame, giving it a warmer appearance than gunmetal or black outdoor fixtures. The cream etched glass is translucent rather than transparent, so bulb filaments are diffused when lit. Each E27 socket accepts bulbs up to 60W, so two 8-10W LED bulbs at 2700K-3000K provide enough ambient light to navigate steps, doorways and paths safely after dark without over-lighting the space.

Can this be used in an exposed position?

The IP44 rating protects against water splashes and dust, making it suitable for covered outdoor positions such as porch ceilings, carports and entrance canopies. It is not rated for fully exposed positions where rain can pool or drip directly onto the fitting from above.

What bulbs does it take?

The fitting takes two standard E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 8-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient outdoor lighting.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 162mm projection from the ceiling works in standard outdoor ceiling heights of 2.2m and above. Lower ceilings can still accommodate the fitting if headroom clearance of at least 2m is maintained beneath the light.

How is the glass cleaned?

Switch off the power at the consumer unit before cleaning. The etched glass can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and mild washing-up liquid, then dried with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads which can scratch the etched surface.
