Description

The Mercury fire blanket is a 1m x 1m square of woven glass fabric stored in a quick-release wall pouch, certified to BS EN 1869:2019 for domestic and workplace fire safety. The blanket deploys by pulling two fabric tapes downwards, releasing it from the pouch in one continuous motion. Once deployed, the blanket can be used to smother small fires, wrap around a person whose clothing has caught fire, or shield the user when approaching a fire to reach an exit.

Designed for kitchens, workshops, caravans, boats and offices, the pouch mounts onto a wall using two screws (not included) and sits 320mm wide by 180mm tall with a 25mm projection. The red pouch carries printed instructions for deployment and use in four steps, visible at a glance during an emergency. The blanket itself weighs 510g when packed and can be handled by one person.

The 100% glass fabric construction is non-combustible and does not require maintenance between deployment events. After use, the blanket is discarded — it cannot be cleaned or reused. The 1m x 1m size suits chip pan fires, small electrical appliance fires, and wrapping around an adult's torso and arms when clothing ignition occurs. Larger fire blankets are available for commercial kitchens and industrial settings, but the 1m size is specified for domestic use under BS EN 1869:2019.

Frequently Asked

What is the blanket made from?

The blanket is woven from 100% glass fabric, which is non-combustible and can withstand direct contact with flames to smother small fires. It does not contain asbestos.

Can it be reused after deployment?

No. Fire blankets are single-use items under BS EN 1869:2019. After deployment, the blanket must be discarded and replaced with a new unit, even if it appears undamaged.

How is it deployed in an emergency?

Pull both fabric tapes downwards firmly. This releases the blanket from the pouch in one motion. Hold the blanket by the tapes to shield your hands, approach the fire, and place the blanket over the flames, leaving it in place until the fire is completely cool.

What size fires is this rated for?

The 1m x 1m size is rated under BS EN 1869:2019 for domestic use and suits small fires such as chip pans, small electrical appliances, and clothing fires. It is not intended for large or spreading fires — evacuate and call emergency services in those cases.
