Description

A small ball head hung from a slim suspension, black from top to bottom, this is a pendant-style head for the Magneto low voltage track system. The LED is built in and draws 10W, giving 800 lumens of warm white light with strong colour rendering, so wood, food and skin tones all read properly beneath it. The spread is wide rather than a narrow spot, which makes it a soft pool of light instead of a hard circle. It is triac dimmable, so with a suitable dimmer in the system the level drops away for the evening; the driver sits inside the fitting.

We reach for these over kitchen islands, long worktops and dining tables, run in a line so the light lands at even intervals down the length. The drop is adjustable within a set range, which lets you sit the balls low over a table or lift them clear of a busy prep area. Because the whole head is powered from the track, one supply feeds the row and you can add or move heads as the layout of a room changes. It suits open-plan spaces, galley kitchens and studios where a fixed row of ceiling points would be too rigid.

The ball measures 95mm across and the finish is a flat black that keeps the head quiet against a dark ceiling and crisp against a pale one. Dust it with a soft cloth now and then, with the circuit off at the switch, and keep polishes and solvents away from the finish. It carries a three year warranty. We stock the matching deep surface and pendant track, corner and wall-to-wall joints, end caps and the triac controller for the system, all in the same black, so a run can be built up piece by piece. A dimmer is not supplied with the head.
