Description

The LYYT X connector creates four-way junctions in 10mm single colour LED tape installations without soldering. Each connector is a 50 x 50mm plastic cross with four snap-fit terminals, supplied in packs of five. The terminals grip the copper contact pads on the LED tape when the strip is inserted and the hinged lid is closed, forming a mechanical and electrical connection.

Designed for residential and commercial LED tape projects where multiple strips need to branch from a single feed point, the X connector suits cabinet lighting, shelf edging, under-counter runs and display cases where a single power feed splits into four directions. The snap-fit mechanism removes the need for soldering skills or equipment, allowing faster installation on site. The IP20 rating means the connector is suitable for dry indoor locations only.

Each connector weighs 3.7g and sits 3mm proud of the mounting surface when installed, keeping the junction low-profile behind pelmets or within recesses. The plastic housing accepts 10mm wide single colour LED tape (two-pad version) and maintains electrical continuity across all four branches when correctly fitted. LYYT brand tape is the specified compatible product, though most 10mm single colour tapes with standard pad spacing will fit the terminal layout.

Frequently Asked

Does this work with RGB LED tape?

No. This connector is designed for 10mm single colour LED tape with two contact pads (positive and negative). RGB tape uses four or five pads and requires a different connector layout.

Can the connector be reused if the tape is removed?

The snap-fit terminals can be opened and the tape removed, but repeated opening and closing may weaken the spring contacts. For permanent installations, treat the connection as single-use.

What's the current rating?

LYYT does not publish a specific current rating for the X connector. For typical 12V single colour LED tape running at 4.8W per metre, a four-way junction would carry the combined current of all four branches through the central connector. Keep total current below 3A (approximately 7.5m of 4.8W/m tape across all four branches) to avoid overheating the terminals.

Is soldering more reliable than snap-fit connectors?

Soldered joints generally provide lower resistance and better long-term reliability, but snap-fit connectors offer speed and convenience where soldering is impractical. For professional installations with high current or vibration, soldering is preferred. For domestic projects and low-current runs, snap-fit connectors are adequate.
