Description

The LYYT LED night light is a plug-in sensor light designed to activate automatically when movement is detected in darkness, using three 0.233W LEDs producing 9 lumens of cool white light at 4000-4800K. The unit plugs directly into a standard UK 3-pin socket and includes a PIR sensor on the front face with an 8m detection range and 160° coverage arc.

Designed for hallways, stairs, landings, bathrooms, nurseries and anywhere night-time navigation light is needed without permanent illumination, the LYYT offers three timer settings selectable via a side-mounted switch: 30, 60 or 90 seconds of light after movement is detected. An additional setting allows the light to be switched to always-on or always-off, bypassing the sensor. The sensor only activates in darkness, so the light will not trigger during daylight hours even when movement occurs.

The white moulded plastic housing measures 115 x 60 x 36.5mm and weighs 123g. At 0.7W power consumption when active, the LED array uses minimal energy and is rated for approximately 30,000 hours of operation. The unit conforms to BS 5733/A for automatic light-control switches. The cool white colour temperature provides functional visibility rather than ambient warmth, making it suitable for task-focused applications where the priority is seeing steps, doorways or fixtures clearly during night-time movement.

Frequently Asked

Does the sensor work during the day?

No. The LYYT includes an automatic darkness sensor that prevents the PIR from activating during daylight hours. Movement detection only triggers the light when ambient light levels are low enough for the night-time function to be needed.

What are the timer settings?

The side-mounted switch offers 30, 60 or 90 second settings, which determine how long the light stays on after the PIR detects movement. There is also an always-on and always-off mode that bypasses the sensor entirely.

Is 9 lumens enough for a hallway?

9 lumens is sufficient for navigating a hallway, landing or staircase at night without creating glare or disturbing sleep. It is not designed as a primary light source — it provides enough visibility to move safely from room to room or to locate a light switch.

How far does the PIR sensor detect movement?

The sensor has an 8m detection range with a 160° coverage arc. In a typical 900mm-wide hallway this covers the full width and extends along the length, but in larger open-plan spaces the coverage may not reach into far corners.
