Description

LYYT 705 RTV silicone is a room-temperature-vulcanising adhesive and sealant supplied in a 20g tube for waterproofing LED strip joints, rope light connections and cable terminations. The silicone cures on exposure to moisture in the air, forming a flexible, water-resistant seal around soldered connections and cut ends without requiring heat or pressure.

Used in outdoor LED installations, architectural lighting runs and IP-rated retrofit projects where strip-to-strip joints or strip-to-cable connections need protection from water ingress. The silicone is applied directly to the connection point, then covered with heat-shrink tubing to create a double-layer seal. Once cured (typically 24 hours at room temperature), the silicone remains flexible and resistant to UV degradation, vibration and thermal cycling between -40°C and +200°C.

The 20g tube includes a precision nozzle tip for controlled application without excess waste. One tube seals approximately 10-15 standard LED strip joints depending on the width of the strip and the length of the connection. The silicone is non-corrosive to copper PCB tracks and solder points, and can be removed mechanically if a joint needs to be redone.

Frequently Asked

How long does the silicone take to cure?

RTV silicone cures on exposure to moisture in the air. Surface cure (when the outer layer is no longer tacky) typically occurs within 30-60 minutes at room temperature and 50% humidity. Full through-cure to maximum strength takes approximately 24 hours. Higher humidity accelerates curing; very dry environments slow it down.

Can it be used on 12V and 24V LED strips?

Yes. The silicone is electrically insulating and non-conductive once cured, making it safe for low-voltage DC LED strip connections at 12V, 24V or 48V. It does not interfere with the electrical function of the joint.

Do I still need heat-shrink tubing?

Heat-shrink tubing is recommended as a secondary layer over the silicone. The silicone provides the waterproof seal; the heat-shrink provides mechanical protection and strain relief for the connection. Together they form a more durable and weather-resistant joint than either material alone.

How many joints does one tube seal?

A 20g tube typically seals 10-15 standard LED strip joints (8-10mm wide strips with typical solder connections). Wider strips or longer cable runs may use more silicone per joint. Apply a thin, continuous bead around the connection rather than a thick glob — excess silicone does not improve sealing and takes longer to cure.
