Lori Single E27 Pendant Light Chrome - Polished Chrome

The shade here is a slim curved trapezium in chrome, hung from a polished chrome suspension that catches the light along its length. At 12cm across it is a small fitting, narrow enough to read as a piece of jewellery rather than a lampshade, and the mirrored surface bounces light back into the room as much as it sends it down. The drop adjusts, so the shade can sit up close to the ceiling or fall low over a surface, and the suspension runs to 1.7m for rooms with height to fill.

We reach for small pendants like this where a wider shade would crowd the space: above a bedside table, in a narrow hallway, over the end of a breakfast bar. Hung in a run along an island they give repetition without bulk, and because the shade is shallow they sit in a sightline without blocking it. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and it will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a matching dimmer, which is worth doing in a bedroom. An LED lamp is what we would put in it.

The polished chrome runs over the suspension, with the shade repeating it in chrome, so the whole fitting stays bright from top to bottom. Polished chrome shows fingerprints, so we keep a dry lint-free cloth to hand and wipe along the curve of the shade; nothing damp, and no cream cleaners, which will dull the shine. It is an earthed fitting, meant for dry rooms indoors and normal household mains. It carries a one year warranty. How far down does it hang?

The drop is adjustable from 270mm at its shortest to 1770mm at its longest, so it can be shortened for a low ceiling or let out over a table.

What lamp should I use?

An E27 lamp rated at up to 20W. An LED is the sensible choice, and the shape you pick will change the look, since the shade is open below.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with it.

How wide is the shade?

120mm in diameter, which keeps it visually light and makes it easy to hang in a row without the shades competing.

How do I keep the chrome looking sharp?

Switch off at the wall first, then buff gently with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive pastes, solvents and glass sprays on the polished surfaces.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so we would keep it to bedrooms, hallways, kitchens and living spaces.
