Lori Round Flush Ceiling Light 15cm Smoke - Satin Nickel

Small, shallow and quietly detailed, this is a flush fitting for rooms where headroom is tight. A round satin nickel plate sits close to the ceiling, and below it hangs a slim tube shade in smoke, ribbed down its length so the light breaks into fine vertical lines on its way out. At 15cm across it reads as a neat disc rather than a feature. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and it will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a suitable dimmer.

We would put it on a landing, in a hallway or over the stairs, anywhere a hanging light would be in the way, and it does the same job in a small bedroom, a cloakroom or a study alcove. It belongs in dry rooms indoors, away from splashes and steam, and it needs an earthed supply. The smoke shade takes the edge off the lamp rather than leaving it bare, which matters in a room where you often look up.

The plate is metal, finished in satin nickel with a soft low shine rather than a mirror, and the ribbed tube below it is smoke-toned so the lamp shows as a glow rather than a hard point. Dust the tube with a clean dry cloth once the lamp has gone cold, lift marks with a barely damp cloth, and keep polishes and sprays well away from the nickel. It carries a one year warranty. Which lamp does it take?

One E27 lamp rated up to 20W. An LED is the sensible choice, and the shape you pick should suit the slim tube shade so it sits neatly within it. No lamp is supplied.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

Is it suitable for a bathroom or an outdoor porch?

No. It is rated IP20 and made for dry interior rooms only, so keep it away from showers, baths and anywhere it could be rained on.

How should I clean the smoke shade?

Switch off at the wall and let the lamp cool, then wipe the ribbed tube with a soft dry cloth, working along the grooves. A barely damp cloth deals with fingerprints; avoid abrasives and aerosol polish.
