Lori E27 Flush Ceiling Light 15cm Smoke - Satin Nickel

Sitting close to the ceiling, this small round fitting pairs a satin nickel plate with a smoke shade in an open mouth globe shape. The open base sends light straight down, while the tinted shade softens whatever glows out through the sides. The shade is smoke right through, so it stays quiet against a white ceiling even when the light is off. At 15cm across it asks very little of a ceiling, and the shallow depth keeps it clear of head height in rooms where a hanging light would only be in the way.

We reach for it in hallways, on landings, in box rooms and walk-in wardrobes, and above a stair where the ceiling sits low. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and dimming is possible if you pair a suitable lamp with a suitable dimmer, neither of which comes with it. We would choose a warm white LED globe here, so the smoke tint reads amber rather than grey. As a flush fitting it also earns its place in rooms where a pendant tends to get knocked.

The metalwork wears a soft satin nickel, a low sheen that holds back reflections and sits comfortably beside the darker shade. For care, take the power off at the switch and let the lamp cool, then wipe the shade with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away; the plate needs no more than an occasional flick of a duster. It carries a one year warranty. What size is it?

It measures 150mm in diameter and stands 90mm deep, so it reads as a small, close-fitting light rather than a feature above your head.

What lamp does it need?

One E27 lamp rated up to 20W. We would fit an LED, and a globe-shaped lamp suits the open mouth shade best.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer is supplied.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which makes it a fitting for dry rooms such as hallways, bedrooms and landings.

How do I clean the shade?

Switch off and let everything cool, then use a soft cloth, lightly damp if needed, and dry the shade off. Avoid sprays and abrasive creams, which dull the satin nickel.

Does the light shine downwards or all around?

Both. The open base throws light down onto the floor, and the smoke shade lets a softer glow through the sides.
