Description

Small, shallow and neatly finished, this is a flush fitting for rooms where headroom is short. A wine shaped shade in opal sits beneath a round polished chrome plate, so the light comes out diffused and gentle rather than sharp. The chrome picks up whatever daylight the room has and keeps the fitting looking crisp against a white ceiling. At 15cm across it takes up very little of the ceiling, and the profile is low enough to pass almost unnoticed until it is lit.

We use fittings like this on landings, in hall ceilings, in a box bedroom or a cloakroom, and anywhere a pendant would hang into the way. It runs on a single E27 lamp of up to 20W, and we would choose a warm white LED in a golf or globe shape so the opal glows evenly from edge to edge. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and a suitable dimmer, though the dimmer itself is a separate purchase. Keep it to dry rooms; steamy bathrooms and covered porches are outside what it is meant for.

The plate and trim are finished in polished chrome, bright rather than brushed, and the shade is opal. Wipe the chrome with a dry soft cloth to keep water marks off it, and give the shade the same treatment once the lamp has gone cold, using nothing wet and nothing abrasive. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same fitting with an amber wine shade if you want a warmer cast, and the wine shade is offered on an antique gold plate too, which is worth a look if the rest of the room leans towards brass. Lamps are not included.
