Three slim curved trapezium shades sit in a ring beneath a round satin nickel plate, and the iridescent finish shifts through soft pinks and greens as you walk past. The plate measures 40cm across and the fitting stays tight against the ceiling, so light washes outwards over the plaster instead of dropping down into the room. Each shade takes an E27 lamp, and the narrow curve of the shade suits a slim LED rather than a broad globe. Being flush, there is no drop to allow for beneath it.

We would fit this where a pendant would only be in the way: a hallway or landing, a bedroom with a lower ceiling, a compact dining room, a study. It suits a flat that needs a proper ceiling light without giving up head height, and it works well over a landing where a hanging fitting would swing near the stairs. Spread across the plate, the lamps give plenty for general use. It will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer, though no dimmer comes with it. Keep it to dry indoor rooms; it is not intended for a bathroom zone or an open porch.

The satin nickel is a quiet, low-shine finish that sits happily alongside brushed steel or chrome taps and handles, leaving the shades to carry the colour. Dust them with a dry microfibre cloth once the lamps have gone cold, and keep sprays and kitchen cleaners away from the iridescent surface, as they dull the sheen over time. It carries a one year warranty. What size lamps does it take?

It takes three E27 lamps, each rated up to 20W. LED is the sensible choice here, and a slim lamp body suits the curved trapezium shades better than a wide globe.

How much ceiling space does it need?

The plate is 400mm in diameter and the fitting projects just 90mm from the ceiling, so it reads as a shallow disc rather than a hanging light.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a matching dimmer switch. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

How do I clean the iridescent shades?

Wait until the lamps are cold, then wipe with a dry or barely damp microfibre cloth. Avoid glass sprays and abrasive cleaners, which can flatten the iridescent effect.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so choose it for hallways, bedrooms, landings and living spaces.
