Three slim curved trapezium shades in smoke hang beneath a round frame 40cm across, each sitting clear of its neighbours. The metalwork is antique gold, warmer and quieter than a bright brass, and the tinted shades soften the lamp inside rather than leaving it bare. Every shade takes an E27 lamp, and the drop adjusts over a wide span, so the fitting can sit tucked up under a lower ceiling or hang well down over a table.

We reach for this where a round dining table needs something with a bit of presence, and it earns its keep just as well over a kitchen island or in a hall with the height to take it. The shades throw enough light for a room to be worked in rather than only sat in, while the smoke tint keeps the overall mood low and easy. It will dim if you pair compatible lamps with a separate dimmer, which is what we would do in a dining room. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; steam and splashes are not its territory.

The antique gold carries across the frame and the shade collars, so the metalwork reads as one piece rather than a set of parts. For upkeep, take the power off at the wall and let the lamps go cold, then lift dust from the shades with a dry microfibre cloth; fingerprints near the top come away with a barely damp cloth, and nothing abrasive should go anywhere near the gold. It carries a one year warranty. How far can the pendant hang down?

The drop is adjustable from 270mm at its shortest to 2270mm at its fullest, so it suits both standard and tall ceilings.

What lamps does it take?

Three E27 lamps, each rated up to a maximum of 20W. We would fit LED capsules or globes here, chosen to suit how much of the lamp shows through the smoke shades.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor the dimmer come with the fitting.

How wide is it?

The round frame measures 400mm in diameter, which sits comfortably over a round table or an island without crowding the space.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and is meant for dry indoor rooms such as dining rooms, kitchens, halls and sitting rooms.

How heavy is it?

Around 4.2kg complete, before lamps.
