Description

Three opal wine shades hang from a round polished chrome plate, each on its own E27 lampholder. The shade shape borrows from a wine glass, drawing in at the neck and opening out again below the fixing, so the light falls downward with a soft edge to it. The plate measures 40cm across, which gives the drops room to sit apart from one another instead of bunching in the middle, and the chrome is polished bright enough to pick up whatever is lit around it.

The drop is adjustable across a generous span, which is what makes this one we reach for over a long dining table, a kitchen island or a hallway with height to fill. Hung low, the shades read as a row of individual lights; taken up, the whole thing sits closer to the ceiling line and stays out of the way of a door or a tall cupboard. It will dim, provided the lamps you choose are dimmable and a compatible dimmer is wired in, and we would suggest LED lamps here so the shades stay cool to the touch and the running cost stays modest.

The frame and plate are polished chrome throughout, with the opal shades set beneath in the same wine profile. Keep the chrome looking its best by dusting it with a dry microfibre cloth and lifting any fingerprints with a barely damp one, then drying straight after so no marks are left behind; nothing abrasive and no spray cleaners on the shades. It is an indoor fitting for dry rooms, wired with an earth connection, and it carries a one year warranty. The same wine shade turns up elsewhere in the Lori range on a flush fitting, in polished chrome with amber and in antique gold with opal, so a hallway and a dining room can be tied together without matching exactly. Lamps are not included.
