Description

Three open-mouthed glass globes in smoke sit close under a shallow round plate finished in satin nickel, the whole thing holding tight to the ceiling rather than dropping below it. At 40cm across it reads as a whole rather than a cluster of separate lamps, and the tinted glass takes the edge off the bulbs without hiding them. Each globe faces downward, so the light falls in overlapping pools with a soft grey cast through the tint.

This is a fitting for rooms where a pendant would be in the way: a hallway, a landing, a bedroom under a lower ceiling, a small kitchen where you walk beneath the light rather than around it. The lamps spread across the plate give more even cover than a central lamp on its own, which helps in a square room or a wide corridor. We would fit an LED globe or golfball lamp in each holder, and if you want the level to drop of an evening, suitable dimmable lamps with a matching dimmer will do it.

The plate and holders carry a satin nickel finish, a soft sheen that keeps marks and dust less obvious than bright chrome. The smoke glass holds its tone right through, so it still reads grey when the light is off. Dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth, leaving the lamps to cool before you handle the globes, and keep water away from it; this one belongs in dry indoor rooms. Lamps are not included, and no dimmer comes with it. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Lori range runs to smaller 15cm versions in antique gold and polished chrome, with globe, wine and trapezium shades if you want something matching in a cloakroom or over the stairs.
