Description

The Llamas is a 780mm table lamp with three curved polished chrome arms rising from a rounded base, each arm tapering from approximately 25mm diameter at the base to 8mm at the tip where a G4 halogen capsule sits. The arms curve outward and upward in an asymmetric flame-like configuration, giving the lamp a sculptural presence that works as both accent lighting and a decorative object on console tables, sideboards and large side tables.

Designed by Diyas Lighting for use with halogen G4 capsules only (not compatible with LED or CFL equivalents), the lamp includes three 20W G4 halogen bulbs and an inline dimmer switch on the cable. The polished chrome surface reflects and amplifies the halogen light output, creating highlights and shadow patterns on surrounding walls and surfaces. The 310mm base diameter and 4.2kg weight give the lamp stability without requiring a weighted plinth.

The flame-like form means the lamp reads differently from different angles — front-on it appears as three parallel arcs, while from the side the curves overlap and create layered depth. The highly reflective chrome finish shows fingerprints and requires occasional cleaning with a microfibre cloth, but this same reflectivity is what gives the lamp its visual impact when lit. The inline dimmer allows the light output to be reduced for ambient use or turned up when the lamp is being used as task lighting next to a reading position.

Can I use LED G4 bulbs instead of halogen?

No. The Llamas is designed for halogen G4 capsules only and is not compatible with LED or CFL equivalents. The transformer and dimmer circuitry are optimised for halogen load characteristics, and using LED bulbs may cause flickering or failure to dim correctly.

Is the dimmer switch on the cable or on the lamp base?

The dimmer is inline on the cable, typically positioned 300-500mm from the plug. This allows brightness adjustment without reaching behind the lamp or the surface it sits on.

What surface area does it need?

The base diameter is 310mm, so the lamp needs a surface at least 350mm wide to sit comfortably without overhanging the edge. Console tables, sideboards and larger side tables are suitable. The 4.2kg weight means it should sit on a stable surface rather than a lightweight occasional table.

How do I clean the polished chrome finish?

Polished chrome shows fingerprints and dust easily. Wipe with a clean, dry microfibre cloth to remove surface marks. For stubborn smudges, a barely-damp microfibre cloth with distilled water works, but avoid household sprays or metal polishes which can leave residue on the reflective surface.
