Description

A short concrete cylinder that sends light up the wall and down again, plain in daylight and doing its work after dark. It takes two GU10 lamps, one at each end, and a reflector LED is what we would fit here for a clean beam that hugs the wall. At 85mm across it is a small fitting, deliberately so, and the concrete reads as a solid block rather than a shade, with the grey tone and faint texture of the material left on show.

Outdoors it earns its place beside a front door, along a run of garden wall, on a porch, or either side of a garage. It is sealed against dust and driving rain, so exposed positions are no problem. A pair, or a whole run of them spaced evenly down a boundary wall, gives rhythm without glare, since the light stays on the wall face rather than spilling where it is not wanted. Fit dimmable lamps and it will dim on a compatible dimmer, though no dimmer comes with it. Anyone after something more architectural than a lantern will get on with it.

Cast concrete gives it weight and a matt, faintly grainy surface that weathers slowly in the way concrete does. The finish is a soft mid grey rather than a painted coat, so small marks tend to read as part of the material. Keep it looking right with a damp cloth followed by a dry one, and skip scouring pads and solvents, which will scuff it. It carries a two year warranty. We stock the same round shape in white concrete, and the range also runs to rectangular wall lamps and single-lamp spotlights in both concrete finishes, so a whole elevation can be handled in one family.
