Description

A trimless recessed spot in black, shaped to sit down into the ceiling line with no rim on show around the aperture, so what you see is the opening and the light rather than a ring of metal. Sizing is straightforward: a 62mm cut-out, with a shallow body behind it. It takes a GU10 lamp of up to 12W, which leaves both the beam and the colour of the light up to the lamp you choose. It is not a dimming fitting, so it belongs on a plain switched circuit.

We use downlights of this sort where a ceiling needs to stay quiet: a run down a hallway, a line above a kitchen worktop, or a grid across a plain ceiling in a bedroom or study. It is also a sensible choice over shelving, and in rooms where headroom is tight and a surface fitting would sit too proudly. The black aperture reads as a dark dot rather than a bright disc when the lamp is off, which suits darker rooms and walls hung with pictures, where nothing should compete. Keep it to rooms that stay dry, away from shower zones and anywhere open to the weather.

The outer face measures 10.5cm across, and the finish is consistent from one unit to the next, so several in a row look of a piece. Dust the visible face with a dry lint free cloth when the power is off and the lamp has gone cold; nothing abrasive, and no sprays near the aperture. It carries a one year warranty. We also stock it in white, and the two mix well in one house: black where ceilings are dark or walls are busy, white where the opening should vanish. Lamps are supplied separately.
