Description

A shade only and non-electric, this one takes its light from the fitting it dresses. The shape is a straight-sided drum, though a tall and slender one at 13cm across and 31cm high, worked in clear crystal against French gold. It reads as a slim column of light rather than a wide band, which is what marks it out from the usual drum. Lit, the crystal breaks the light into small bright points; unlit, it still holds the eye. We keep it on the shelf as an easy way of putting sparkle onto a plain fitting without altering anything else.

It is made for both hanging fittings and table lamps, so it earns its place in more than one room: a run of them above a kitchen island, a pair on bedside lamps, or a single one on a landing where something small and bright is wanted. It suits anyone who likes a little glitter without the commitment of a chandelier, and we would choose it where a ceiling sits low and a broader shade would crowd the room. The lamp comes from the host fitting rather than from the shade.
