Description

A simple rounded dome on a slim suspension, finished in anthracite outside with an opal white interior that softens the light on its way down. It measures 37cm across, wide enough to read as a proper shape over a table without crowding the room. The holder takes an E27, and we would reach for a GLS LED here for an even spread and low running cost. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and dimmer, neither of which forms part of the fitting.

The light is ambient rather than focused, so it earns its place over a kitchen island, a dining table, a stairwell or a hallway where you want a soft pool of light rather than a beam. The drop adjusts between 0.5m and 1.5m, which suits a standard ceiling and still leaves room to hang lower over a worktop. It is one we like in a row along a longer island, where the domes line up and the shades keep glare out of eye level. Because it gives a broad, unfussy wash, it also works as the only light in a small dining room. It suits anyone after something quiet and rounded rather than angular.

The anthracite outer keeps the fitting understated when the light is off, while the opal white inner face keeps the glow soft when it is on. For cleaning, take a barely damp cloth to the outside of the dome once the lamp has cooled, then dry it off; polishes and solvents will do the finish no favours. It carries a two year warranty. The wider range gives you a larger dome pendant, a table lamp, a hook plate and floor stands with a hook, so a matching set is easy to put together. Lamps are not included.
