Description

Cordless light for the garden, powered by a rechargeable battery and charged from the USB cable that comes with it. It stands 38cm tall on a slim 11cm diameter base, so it takes up little room on a table or a step. A single 2W LED sits inside, giving a soft warm white glow rather than a working light. A touch dimmer is built into the lantern itself, so brightness is set with a finger, no switch or socket involved.

We find it most useful where there is no power point to hand: down the length of a garden table at supper, on the tread of a set of steps, or on a shelf in a summer house. It suits anyone who entertains outside and does not want cables underfoot. Because it lifts and moves, it earns its keep in more than one spot across an evening, and it comes back indoors when the weather turns. It is rated for outdoor use and copes with rain and splashes, though we would keep it under a porch or a canopy rather than out in an open bed all winter.

Black throughout, it keeps to plain lines and does not fight with planting or paving. Keeping it right is quick: unplug the charging lead, wipe the outside over with a damp cloth, then dry it before it goes back on charge, and give the battery a top-up before a long spell in storage. The LED is fixed in place, so there is nothing to change. It carries a three year warranty. Through the USB charging cable supplied with it. Once charged, the lantern runs on its internal battery, so no socket is needed where you use it.

How bright is it, and what colour is the light?

It produces 155 lumens at 3000K, a warm white output meant for atmosphere at close range rather than lighting a whole patio.

Can the brightness be adjusted?

Yes. A touch dimmer is built into the lantern, so you can take it from full output down to a low glow without any separate control.

Can it be left outside in the rain?

It is IP54 rated, so rain and splashes are not a problem, but we would site it somewhere sheltered and bring it in rather than leave it out through a wet winter.

Does the LED need replacing?

No. The LED is integrated and rated at 30,000 hours, so there is no lamp to buy or fit.
