Description

The Knightsbridge IP65 fire-rated shower downlight is a die-cast recessed fitting designed for wet zones in bathrooms, shower rooms and utility areas. The GU10 socket accepts halogen, LED or CFL bulbs up to 35W (sold separately), and the IP65 front bezel protects against water jets from any direction. The fitting carries 30/60/90-minute fire ratings for solid timber construction, 30-minute for web-joist and I-joist installations, tested to BS476 Part 21 & 23 and compliant with Building Regulations Part B.

Installation requires a 70mm ceiling cut-out and 118mm recessed depth above the ceiling line. The fitting is insulation compatible, allowing loft insulation to be laid over the housing without creating a fire risk or overheating the lamp. Spring clips hold the housing in the ceiling with a maximum recommended ceiling thickness of 30mm. The front bezel uses a twist-and-lock ring to secure the lamp, which allows bulb changes without removing the bezel or disturbing the ceiling cut-out.

The pressed steel and aluminium construction provides structural integrity for fire-rated performance while keeping the fitting light enough for plasterboard installation. The white powder-coat finish on the bezel sits flush with ceilings and matches standard white emulsion tones. Electrical connection is made via a 10A connector block inside the housing with a cord grip for cable strain relief. The fitting is Class I and must be earthed. Dimming capability depends on the bulb chosen — most GU10 LED bulbs are dimmable when paired with a compatible LED dimmer.

Can this be used in bathroom shower zones?

Yes. The IP65 rating means the front bezel is protected against water jets, making it suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 in bathrooms (directly above a shower or bath). The IP20 rating from above means the housing is not protected against water ingress from the loft side, so it should not be installed where water can reach the top of the housing.

What ceiling depth is needed for installation?

The fitting requires 118mm of recessed depth above the ceiling and a 70mm diameter cut-out through the ceiling material. The spring clips are designed for ceiling thicknesses up to 30mm, which covers standard plasterboard on timber joists.

Is it dimmable?

Dimming capability depends on the GU10 bulb installed. Most GU10 LED bulbs are dimmable when paired with a compatible LED dimmer switch. Halogen GU10 bulbs are dimmable with standard resistive or trailing-edge dimmers.

Does it come with a bulb?

No. GU10 bulbs are sold separately. The fitting accepts GU10 halogen, LED or CFL bulbs up to 35W. For bathroom use, a warm-white LED GU10 between 4-6W and 2700K-3000K is typical.
