Description

The HDview single channel HD video and power balun is a transmitter and receiver pack that sends both AHD camera signal and power over a single CAT5 or CAT5e cable, eliminating the need for separate coaxial video cable and dedicated power runs. One balun connects at the camera end (transmitter), the other at the DVR or monitor end (receiver), with standard twisted-pair network cable linking the two.

Designed for analogue HD CCTV installations where running coaxial cable is impractical or where existing CAT5 infrastructure is already in place, the balun pair suits single-camera runs in residential, retail and small commercial settings. The compact housing (139mm x 105mm x 41mm per unit) fits standard CCTV junction boxes and can be mounted behind cameras or next to recording equipment. The baluns work with both AHD (Analogue High Definition) and standard analogue CCTV cameras, providing backward compatibility with older systems being upgraded incrementally.

Each balun terminates in BNC connectors for the video signal and DC power connectors for the camera's 12V supply. The CAT5 cable carries both the video data and the DC power along separate twisted pairs, with the baluns converting the signal to and from the format required by standard CCTV equipment at each end. This approach reduces cable bulk, simplifies routing through tight spaces and allows longer cable runs than would be practical with standard coaxial cable in some scenarios.

Frequently Asked

What cable type do I need to connect the baluns?

Standard CAT5 or CAT5e twisted-pair network cable is required. CAT6 can also be used but offers no additional benefit for this application. The cable should be solid-core rather than stranded for runs over 50m.

What's the maximum distance between baluns?

Maximum transmission distance depends on cable quality and camera resolution. For AHD 1080p cameras, typical maximum distance is 200-300m over good-quality CAT5e. Analogue standard-definition cameras can run further, up to 400m in some cases.

Can I use existing CAT5 cable already installed in the building?

Yes, provided the cable is not already in use for network data and the run does not exceed the maximum distance for your camera type. Patch cables and very short runs under 10m may use stranded cable successfully, but longer permanent runs require solid-core cable.

Do the baluns work with IP cameras?

No. These baluns are designed for AHD (Analogue High Definition) and standard analogue CCTV cameras only. IP cameras require standard network switches or PoE injectors and do not use baluns.
