Description

The ESP HD Video & Power Balun Transmitter is a single-channel passive converter that transmits both HD video signal and DC power from an AHD or analogue CCTV camera over standard CAT5 or CAT6 twisted-pair cable. The balun accepts BNC video input and screw-terminal power input at the camera end, converting the signals to balanced transmission over the Ethernet cable for runs up to typical balun-rated distances.

Designed for CCTV installations where running separate coaxial and power cables is impractical, the balun reduces cable costs and simplifies installation in commercial, retail and residential security systems. The transmitter sits at the camera location, with a matching receiver balun required at the DVR or monitoring station end to convert the signal back to BNC and power terminals. The unit is compatible with both modern AHD high-definition cameras and legacy analogue CCTV systems.

The compact 139mm x 105mm x 41mm housing is built from black ABS plastic with strain-relief glands for both the attached pigtail cable and the CAT5 connection. At 55g net weight the transmitter can be cable-tied to camera mounting brackets or fixed to walls near the camera position without requiring dedicated support. The screw terminals accept standard gauge CCTV power wire and the BNC connector is male, pairing directly with female BNC on camera video output.

Frequently Asked

What type of cable does it require?

The balun works with standard CAT5 or CAT6 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable. CAT5e is the most common choice for CCTV balun installations. Shielded cable (STP) can also be used where electromagnetic interference is a concern.

Do I need a receiver balun at the other end?

Yes. This is a transmitter unit that sits at the camera end. You will need a matching receiver balun at the DVR or monitoring station to convert the signal back from the CAT5 cable to BNC video and power terminals.

What's the maximum cable run distance?

Maximum distance depends on camera resolution and cable quality. Typical balun-rated distances for AHD 1080p are 250-300m over CAT5e, with longer runs possible for analogue CCTV at lower resolutions. See the datasheet for specific distance ratings.

Is it compatible with IP cameras?

No. This balun is designed for AHD and analogue CCTV cameras that output a BNC video signal and require separate DC power. IP cameras use Ethernet data transmission and Power over Ethernet (PoE), which do not require baluns.
