Description

A plain round trim in sand white, this is a recessed light that gets on with its job and then all but disappears overhead. The outer ring measures 85mm across and sits in a 70mm cut-out, so little of it shows once a lamp is in. The lampholder comes already fitted, ready for a GU10 reflector lamp of up to 10W. Sand white is a quiet, understated white rather than a bright gloss, so the fitting reads as part of the ceiling rather than an object on it.

Downlights like this earn their keep in numbers, so we tend to see them ordered as a run along a hallway, a line above kitchen worktops, or spread across a landing. The small cut-out keeps the ceiling looking calm where a larger trim would start to crowd it, and it is one we suggest for low rooms where a pendant would sit in the way. It will dim, provided you choose a dimmable lamp and there is a suitable dimmer on the circuit; no dimmer comes with the fitting. Keep it to rooms that stay dry, away from shower zones and unheated outbuildings.

The body is compact and light in the hand, with the sand white finish carried across the visible face. Cleaning takes very little: let the lamp go cold, then run a dry cloth around the trim to lift dust, and leave sprays and damp cloths well away from the lampholder. If a lamp ever fails, the holder stays where it is and only the lamp is swapped. It carries a one year warranty. We also stock the same downlight in sand black, which is the one we pick out when a ceiling has been painted a deep colour. Lamps are not included.
