Description
The Knightsbridge fire-rated shower downlight is a fixed GU10 recessed fitting rated IP65 from below and IP20 from above, with a die-cast pressed steel and aluminium body and a brushed chrome front bezel. The fitting is fire-rated to 30/60/90 minutes in solid timber joists, 30 minutes in web-joists and 30 minutes in I-joists (Staircraft), tested to BS476 Part 21 & 23 and compliant with Building Regulations Part B (Fire Safety).
Designed for bathroom zones 1 and 2, shower enclosures, wet rooms and outdoor soffits where water ingress and fire containment are both required, the fitting requires a 70mm cut-out hole and projects 7mm below the ceiling line when installed. The recessed depth of 118mm fits between standard 150mm joist centres and the fitting is insulation compatible, meaning loft insulation can be laid directly over the housing without causing overheating or voiding the fire rating.
The GU10 lamp holder accepts halogen, LED or CFL GU10 bulbs up to 35W (sold separately) and the fitting is dimmable depending on the bulb used. Electrical connection is via a 10A connector block inside a secure enclosure with a cord grip for strain relief. The brushed chrome bezel uses a twist-and-lock ring to hold the lamp in place and provides a low-sheen metallic finish that pairs well with chrome taps, shower fittings and bathroom accessories. Spring clips secure the fitting into the ceiling void and are rated for ceiling thicknesses up to 30mm.

Frequently Asked
What does IP65 mean and which bathroom zones is this suitable for?
IP65 means the fitting is protected against water jets from any direction. This makes it suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2, including directly above a bath or inside a shower enclosure. From above (in the ceiling void) the fitting is rated IP20, so it should not be installed where the ceiling void itself is exposed to water.
What does fire-rated mean?
Fire-rated downlights contain an intumescent pad that expands when exposed to heat, sealing the cut-out hole to prevent fire spreading from the room below into the ceiling void. This fitting is rated to 30/60/90 minutes in solid timber joists, 30 minutes in web-joists and 30 minutes in I-joists, and is compliant with Building Regulations Part B (Fire Safety).
Does it come with a bulb?
No. The fitting accepts any standard GU10 halogen, LED or CFL bulb up to 35W. Most users pair it with a 5-7W GU10 LED in warm white (2700K-3000K) for bathroom lighting.
Is it dimmable?
The fitting itself is dimmable, but dimmer compatibility depends on the GU10 bulb you fit. Use a dimmable GU10 LED or halogen bulb and pair it with a compatible trailing-edge dimmer.
