Description

Three clear glass shades sit in an antique brass frame, each carrying a small candle lamp on an E14 socket. The glass is left plain so the lamps stay part of the look, while the brass has an aged, softly warmed tone rather than a bright shine. At 26cm across it is a modest size for a multi-light fitting, and the suspension can be set short or long, so it suits a low ceiling as readily as a tall one.

We would hang this over a small dining table, in an entrance hall, or above a landing where a wider fitting would crowd the stairs. The light it gives is ambient rather than a focused pool, so it sits happily alongside table lamps in a sitting room or a pair of wall lights on a landing. Fit dimmable candle lamps, put it on a dimmer and the level drops right back for evenings. It is a fitting we turn to when a room wants a little glint of glass without much bulk overhead.

Glass and metal make up the whole thing, the shades clear and the metalwork finished in antique brass. Keep it looking well with an occasional dust, and when the lamps are cold wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away; leave polishes and sprays off the brass. Being unsealed against moisture, it belongs in dry rooms on a household mains supply, not a bathroom or a porch. It carries a one year warranty. The same fitting is stocked in polished chrome, and the range continues in larger pendants, semi flush fittings, table lamps and a wall light, so a hall and a dining room can be matched without repeating the same piece.
