The shade is blown glass in a warm amber, drawn up into a stem and bowl that reads rather like an upturned wine glass, and it hangs from a pewter finished suspension with dark grey detailing. Because the glass is tinted rather than solid, whatever sits inside it shows through, so a plain GLS, a fat globe or a long tubular lamp all earn their keep here. The bowl measures 25cm across, which gives it presence without crowding a narrow room, and the drop can be set short and tight to the ceiling or run down low.

We reach for these where a broad shade would feel heavy: above a breakfast bar, over a small round dining table, or in place of a bedside lamp where the table is already full. It takes an E27 lamp, and with a suitable dimmable lamp and dimmer the amber glass drops to a low, resinous glow that suits late evenings. Glass and metal throughout, with the pewter and dark grey carried through the stem and the holder so the suspension reads as a whole. Wipe the amber glass with a soft damp cloth once it is cool, then dry it off so no bloom is left; the metalwork only wants dusting. It carries a one year warranty. An E27 LED up to 20W. Shapes that suit the glass include GLS A60, G80 and G95 globes, ST64 and T185 tubular lamps, and a decorative filament looks well through the amber tint.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer switch. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the pendant.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry rooms such as kitchens, dining rooms, hallways and bedrooms.

How wide is the shade, and will it suit a small kitchen?

The glass is 250mm in diameter, which is modest enough for a compact galley kitchen or a narrow hall, single or in a run.

How do I clean the amber glass?

Switch off at the wall and let everything cool, then use a soft cloth slightly damp with warm water and a drop of washing up liquid to lift kitchen film, drying the glass straight after. Avoid abrasive creams and solvents.
