E27 Ceiling Light 20cm Amber - Black Chrome

The shade here is an inverted wine glass in amber glass, held on a slim black chrome stem and ceiling plate so the whole fitting sits tight to the ceiling. At 20cm across it is a small light, and the tapered bowl keeps its footprint neat while the amber glass warms the light passing through it. An E27 lamp sits inside, visible through the glass, so the shape of the bulb becomes part of the look.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: hallways, landings, small bedrooms, or a kitchen where the ceiling is already under pressure. It takes up to 20W in LED, plenty for a circulation space, and it will dim happily if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer. Choose a globe or a squirrel cage lamp if you want the filament read through the amber; a plain GLS gives a softer, more even glow. It belongs in dry rooms indoors, well away from showers and anything steamy.

The glass is the point of it, and the black chrome on the plate and stem is deliberately quiet so the amber reads first. Keep the metal to a dry soft cloth and give the glass an occasional wipe once the lamp has gone cold; household sprays mark plated finishes and are best left in the cupboard. It carries a one year warranty. How much room does it need below the ceiling?

It stands 320mm tall overall and measures 200mm across the widest point of the glass, so it suits rooms where headroom is tight.

Which lamps work with it?

One E27 lamp up to 20W. LED versions of the GLS A60, globe G80, ST64 and tubular T185 or T45 shapes all sit well inside the glass. Lamps are supplied separately.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and a dimmer that is compatible with it. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the light.

What is the shade made from?

Glass, tinted amber, with black chrome plated metalwork on the stem and ceiling plate.

Is it suitable for a bathroom or a covered porch?

No. It is rated for dry interior rooms only, so keep it to hallways, bedrooms and living spaces.

How should I clean the amber glass?

Switch the light off and let the lamp go cold, then dust with a soft cloth. For fingermarks, a barely damp cloth followed by a dry one is enough; avoid solvents and abrasive creams.
