Description

A toggle switch sits on the body, so this one can be worked at the fitting itself rather than from the room's main switch. The metalwork is finished in matt black with a small cylindrical body of about 10cm, and it stands out from the wall far enough to give a lamp room to breathe. It takes one E27 lamp, and it will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer. We would choose a warm white LED globe here, which keeps the running cost low and looks settled against the dark finish.

The switch is what makes it useful in a bedroom: set either side of a bed, they give each person their own reading light without losing table space to a lamp. It works just as well in a small study, over a chair in a reading corner, or in a spare room where guests want a light they can find in the dark. Because it is compact, it suits narrow spots such as the wall beside a landing window or the run above a hallway table.

Keep the finish clean by flicking dust off with a dry cloth while the light is off and cold; matt black holds fingermarks less readily than a polished finish, though a barely damp cloth will lift any that appear.
