Description

Five curved arms sweep out from a central hub, each finishing in an E27 lampholder, so the light sits in a wide ring rather than a single point. The frame measures 56cm across and stays close to the ceiling, and the satin nickel is paired with black for a little contrast in the detail. It comes as a frame alone, which puts the shades in your hands: drums for a soft, even wash, glass if you want more sparkle. It will also dim, given lamps that dim and a dimmer to suit them.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low to live with: a wide hallway, a landing, a bedroom or a sitting room with an ordinary ceiling height. Spreading light over five holders rather than one keeps a large room from going patchy, and each lamp takes up to 20W, so the whole fitting can give plenty without any single point glaring. It works over a dining table as well, if you like a ring of shades better than one large shade. Keep it to dry rooms indoors rather than a bathroom or porch.

The finish is satin nickel with black, a quiet mix that sits happily with chrome or brushed steel elsewhere in the room. Wiping the arms over with a dry duster now and then is all the upkeep it asks; if the finish needs more, a barely damp cloth on a cold, switched off fitting will do it, and nothing abrasive. It carries a one year warranty.
