Description

Five E27 lampholders sit along a gently curved circular frame, finished in satin black with a soft sheen rather than a mirror shine. It measures 56cm across and sits close to the ceiling, so the lamps read as a ring of small points rather than a single large shade. The frame is supplied on its own, so the shades, or bare decorative lamps, are yours to choose.

We reach for this one in kitchen dining rooms, wide hallways and bedrooms where a hanging cluster would sit too low or catch a head. Fitted with clear glass globes it feels open and airy; with small opaque shades it turns quieter and more contained, and the curve keeps the light from falling in a flat line. It will dim, given lamps that dim and a dimmer chosen to suit them. Because the shades change the look so completely, we would settle on those first and let the frame do the quiet work behind them.

The satin black finish runs evenly across the arms and holders, and sits happily against a white ceiling or a darker painted one. Each holder takes a lamp of up to 20W, and an LED suited to whatever shade you pair with it is the sensible choice. A dry duster along the arms and around each holder is all it asks, with the power off; water and cream cleaners will spoil the satin surface. It carries a one year warranty. The same curved frame runs through the range as round and linear pendants, satin black among them, and there are small single ceiling lights in finishes from antique brass to pewter if you want something related elsewhere in the house. Shades and lamps are chosen separately.
