Description

Supplied as a frame alone, this one asks you to pick the shades and finish the look yourself. Three E27 lampholders sit at the ends of curved arms that sweep out and up from a round satin black centre, which gives the fitting a drawn-with-a-pen lightness rather than any bulk. It spans 44cm and sits close to the ceiling, so the shades you choose do most of the talking, whether that is a set of small glass domes, narrow fabric drums or something salvaged and mismatched.

It earns its place where a hanging pendant would be a nuisance: a kitchen with a low ceiling, a landing, a hallway you walk through with an armful of washing, a bedroom where headroom is tight. Because the light spreads from separate heads instead of a single point, a medium sized room is lit evenly rather than pooling in the middle. We would fit warm white LED lamps here and keep the shades open enough to let some light escape upwards. Each lamp takes up to 20W, and the fitting will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer.

The satin black finish is even and low in shine, holding the curve of the arms without catching hard highlights. A dry cloth drawn along the arms stops dust settling in the bends, and sprays or solvents are best left alone, as they dull a satin surface quicker than anything. Rated for dry indoor rooms, it should stay clear of bathrooms and covered porches. It carries a one year warranty. The same curved round shape is also offered as a pendant, in satin black and in antique brass with black, and there is a curved linear pendant in the range if your table is longer than it is wide.
