Crystal Square Downlight Rim 62mm Cut-Out 90mm Long - Purple

Cut crystal in a deep purple, squared off into a neat frame that sits tight to the ceiling line and picks up whatever light passes through it. The visible face is 90mm square and it drops into a 62mm cut-out, with enough depth in the crystal to scatter small points of colour rather than a flat tint. This is the rim on its own, so the lampholder and retaining ring come separately: we stock the matching component kit in satin black, aged brass and polished chrome, and one is needed to complete the fitting.

We reach for these where a plain white trim would look a little apologetic, so they earn their place in a dressing room, a home bar, a snug or a run of shallow display niches. The purple reads as a soft muted tone by day and warms up considerably once a lamp is behind it. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a shower area or a covered porch calls for something properly sealed instead. Use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer if you want the colour to sink lower in the evening, and note that neither the lamp nor the dimmer is supplied here.

The rim is made from Diyas Select crystal, coloured through rather than coated, with faceted edges and a squared profile that gives the front face its depth. To clean, take the power off at the wall, let everything cool, then lift the rim away and wipe the crystal with a barely damp lint free cloth, drying it straight off; keep sprays and kitchen cleaners well away from the facets. It carries a one year warranty. The range runs to clear, green and aqua crystal alongside this purple, in bubble, chamfered and cluster styles, and in round rims as well as square, so a whole ceiling can be mixed or matched from the same family. Lamps are not included.

What size hole does this rim suit?

It is designed for a 62mm cut-out. The rim itself measures 90mm by 90mm with a 20mm height.

Does it come with the electrical parts?

No. This is the crystal rim only. The IL30800 lampholder and retaining ring kit is required to complete the item, and we sell it in satin black, aged brass and polished chrome.

Can the light be dimmed?

Yes, provided dimmable lamps and a suitable dimmer are used. No dimmer is supplied with the rim.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

It is rated IP20, so it should be kept to dry interior rooms rather than zoned bathroom or outdoor positions.

How should the crystal be cleaned?

Isolate the supply, let the lamp cool, remove the rim and wipe the crystal with a slightly damp lint free cloth, then dry it. Avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners.
