Crystal Shallow Downlight Rim 62mm Cut-Out 90mm Dia - Black

Small, round and very shallow, this is a cut crystal rim finished in black, 90mm across the face over a 62mm cut-out. The crystal is Diyas Select, cut to catch light at its edges so the aperture reads as a piece of jewellery rather than a plain bezel. It is a rim only, non-electrical, and pairs with the separate lampholder and retaining ring kit to make a working downlight. Because it carries no lamp of its own, the light source and its control come from the kit and lamp you choose, with dimmable lamps needed if you want to dim.

We reach for these where a run of ordinary white bezels would look flat: a hallway ceiling, a dressing room, the shallow reveal above a bar or above display shelving. Black crystal stays quiet by day and sparkles once the lamp is lit, which makes it a good match for dark paint, panelling or a smoked mirror. It is rated for dry indoor rooms, so keep it to living spaces, landings and bedrooms rather than shower zones or anywhere open to the weather. The rim is solid crystal, with the colour in the glass rather than sprayed over it, so the facets will not wear pale at the edges. Dust does settle quickly on cut surfaces; a dry lint-free cloth or a soft brush keeps it bright, and for fingermarks use a barely damp cloth once the lamp has gone cold. Nothing abrasive, and no solvents. It carries a one year warranty. The same round rim is offered in clear and in green, and the range runs to square rims, chamfered profiles and clustered crystal, so a ceiling can be matched throughout or deliberately mixed. Lamps are not included.

Does this rim work on its own?

No. It is a decorative crystal rim, non-electrical, and needs the IL30800 lampholder and retaining ring kit to become a functioning downlight.

What size aperture does it need?

It is made for a 62mm cut-out. The visible face is 90mm in diameter and the rim is just 10mm deep.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the rim.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

It is rated IP20, so it belongs in dry rooms. Keep it away from shower and bath zones.

How should I clean the crystal?

A soft brush or dry lint-free cloth for dust, and a slightly damp cloth for marks once the lamp is cold. Avoid abrasive creams and solvent cleaners.
