Description

This is the decorative face of a recessed light rather than the working part: a round crystal rim with a chamfered, bevelled edge, in the Spectrum finish. The cut edge picks up light from the lamp behind it and scatters small flecks of colour across the crystal and the ceiling around it, so the fitting reads as a piece of glass rather than a plain bezel. The face measures 95mm across and sits low against the ceiling line, over a 62mm cut-out. It is supplied as a rim only and is non-electrical, so it is paired with a lampholder and retaining ring kit, bought separately, to make up a working downlight.

We would choose it in a dining room, a dressing room or a hallway ceiling where ordinary white bezels look a little utilitarian, and it earns its keep in a row over a bar or an island where the sparkle is at eye level. It belongs in dry indoor rooms, away from steam and splashing, and it is not for outdoor use. If you want the light on a dimmer, the lamp behind the rim has to be a dimmable one, as the rim itself plays no part in the switching.

The rim is solid cut crystal, light in the hand and finished with the faint iridescence that gives Spectrum its name. To keep it bright, wipe the crystal with a dry lint-free cloth once the lamp is cold, and keep polish and aerosol sprays off the cut faces. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same chamfered rim in clear, plus a chamfered square version, and there are bubble and cluster crystal rims in the range if you prefer a busier cut; the matching component kits come in satin black, aged brass, polished chrome and French gold. Lamps are not included.
