Crystal Oval Downlight Rim 62mm Cut-Out 10cm Long - Clear

This is the rim alone: a shallow oval of clear Diyas Select crystal that sits over a small round cut-out and gives a recessed lamp a little sparkle. The facets pick up the beam and send some of it sideways, so the fitting reads as a piece of jewellery in the ceiling rather than a plain hole. Being non-electrical, it needs the matching lampholder and retaining ring kit to work as a downlight, and we stock that kit separately in three finishes.

We would use these where a run of downlights would otherwise feel utilitarian: a hallway, a landing, a dressing room, or a low ceiling in a snug where the light needs to be interesting up close. The oval face suits corridors and narrow ceilings, and it sits neatly in a line. The 62mm cut-out is the usual size for compact recessed lamps, so it slots into most existing schemes. Dimming is possible if you choose dimmable lamps and pair them with a suitable dimmer. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, well away from steam and splashes.

The crystal is cut and polished clear, with a very low profile so the rim sits close against the ceiling line. Dust it with a dry lint-free cloth; fingermarks come off with a barely damp cloth, working on the crystal only and with the power off and the lamp cold. It carries a one year warranty. Within the range there are round and square rims, chamfered and bubble-cut faces, cluster patterns with polished chrome or French gold, and crystal in green, aqua, spectrum and smoked if you want more colour than clear. Lamps and dimmers are bought separately.

Is this a complete downlight?

No. It is the crystal rim on its own. To make a working downlight you also need the lampholder and retaining ring kit (IL30800), which we sell separately in satin black, aged brass and polished chrome.

What cut-out does it need?

A 62mm cut-out, which is the standard aperture for compact recessed lamps.

What are the overall dimensions?

The oval rim measures 100mm by 80mm, with a height of just 10mm, and it weighs around 0.1kg.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and use a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the rim.

How should I clean the crystal?

Switch the circuit off and let the lamp go cold, then dust the crystal with a dry lint-free cloth. For marks, use a barely damp cloth and dry it off; avoid solvents and abrasive creams.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

It is rated IP20, so it belongs in dry rooms rather than anywhere exposed to steam or splashing water.
